We can all get involved to make a difference and make sure our local community, parks and streets are clean and free of litter. Currently we spend nearly £1.1m every year clearing up litter which people should be disposing of correctly. This money could be spent on other essential services and exciting projects within your community. So why not get involved in this year’s Great British Spring Clean from 20 March to 13 April by hosting your own community clean-up, joining someone else’s or by pledging to pick up litter while you are out and about.
On 2 February 2019, Aragon Direct Services was launched.
Aragon Direct Services took over the services operated by Amey in a phased transfer as follows:
- 2 February 2019 – building cleaning service
- 1 April 2019 – waste collection and home to school transport routes
- 4 May 2019 – grounds maintenance, street cleansing and building maintenance services
In the first year of service, our number one focus has been to continue to improve the services in a more flexible approach to meeting the growing needs of our city. For example, where priorities change and we want to amend schedules for a service such as grass cutting this can be arranged more easily than if through an outsourced contract.
Aragon Direct Services will allow us to generate income through commercial operations which will help us to deliver first class services to our residents.
Aragon Direct Services is the trading name of Peterborough City Council’s registered Local Authority Trading Company, Peterborough Limited.
Many thanks to our wonderful schools who had lots of fun helping us spread our message about recycling your waste this Christmas. As well as helping the environment, every 1% more additional recycling can save the city £48,000. Visit www.peterborough.gov.uk/whichbin for help on what items can go in your recycling and food waste bins.
There will be changes to bin collection dates over the Christmas and New Year period.
Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, but it can also be the most wasteful time of the year.
An extra 30% of rubbish (3 million tonnes) is produced and discarded throughout the festive period when compared with the rest of the year. This includes 54 million platefuls of wasted food.
As well as being better for the environment, Peterborough can save £48,000 for every additional 1% it recycles!
Christmas should not cost the Earth – so follow our pre and post Christmas posts for tips and advice on making it a green Christmas. #PeterboroughRecycles
